This 2023, Tina Fey and Amy Poehler celebrate 30 years of friendship. The two comedians met during an improv set in Chicago during the early ‘90s. Today, they are among the most revered female comedians on TV. The duo first made waves as anchors of the Weekend Update on Saturday Night Live (SNL) anchors. Fey joined SNL in 1997 and finally recruited Poehler to the program in 2001. Together, they were the two phenomenal anchors delivering satirical news in the comedy program. At the time, Fey and Poehler were the show’s biggest stars, resulting in SNL leaning more towards female-driven sketches.
Fey’s performance in SNL has garnered her two Emmy Awards. In 2016, she returned to the show with Poehler. Together they won an Emmy for best Outstanding Guest Actress in a Comedy Series. Meanwhile, Poehler also won an Emmy Award thanks to her phenomenal performance with Fey in 2016.
After their time with SNL, Fey and Poehler went on to headline their own award-winning sitcoms. Tina starred in 30 Rock, which garnered her five Emmys, three Golden Globes, and five Screen Actors Guild Awards. Meanwhile, Poehler’s performance in Parks and Recreation earned her a Golden Globe Award and an American Comedy Award.
