At the age of 13, Williams was emancipated legally from his parents, leaving him on his own to support himself. He started doing stand-up in Avondale in Cincinnati. Before long, the comedian was performing nationwide and honing his comedy skill. He appeared first on film and television before having a stand-up special. His acting debut happened in 2002 in the drama "NYPD Blue." He was also a viewer favorite in the TV show "Wild' n Out" which lasted for several seasons. In 2006, he starred in two comedy specials, "Katt Williams: Live: Let a Playa Play" and HBO's "The Pimp Chronicles, Pt. 1," but his breakout special "American Hustle" in 2007 made him a mainstream comedian. He has made eleven specials in his career, which all earned acclaim. He also received the Emmy award for Outstanding Guest Actor in a Comedy Series for his role in "Atlanta: Alligator Man."
